Google Ads Conversions
Connect Google Ads and PixelMili will upload click conversions server-side using the gclid captured when a visitor arrives from your ad. This gives Google's bidding algorithm accurate purchase data — essential for Target CPA and Target ROAS campaigns.
What you'll need
- A Google Ads Customer ID — the 10-digit account number.
- A Developer Token — required for all Google Ads API calls.
- A Conversion Action ID — the numeric ID of the conversion you want to populate.
- An OAuth2 Access Token — authorises PixelMili to upload on your behalf.
Step 1 — Find your Customer ID
- Sign in to Google Ads.
- Your Customer ID is the 10-digit number in the top-right corner, formatted as
XXX-XXX-XXXX. - Copy it and remove the dashes — PixelMili accepts both formats.
Step 2 — Get a Developer Token
- In Google Ads, click Tools & Settings → API Center.
- If you don't have a developer token yet, apply for one. Basic access (test account only) is approved instantly; standard access requires a short application.
- Copy the token from the Developer token field.
Step 3 — Create a Conversion Action
- In Google Ads, go to Goals → Conversions → Summary.
- Click + New conversion action → Website.
- Choose Manual setup using Google tag and configure the action (name it e.g. "PixelMili Purchase").
- After saving, click the conversion action name. The numeric ID appears in the browser URL:
…/conversionAction/987654321/… - Copy that number — this is your Conversion Action ID.
Step 4 — Generate OAuth2 tokens
Google Ads API requires an OAuth2 access token with the
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/adwords scope.
Follow these steps to get both an access token and a refresh token so
PixelMili can renew it automatically — you should only ever need to do this once.
- Go to the OAuth 2.0 Playground.
-
Click the gear icon (⚙) → check Use your own OAuth credentials
and enter your Google Cloud OAuth Client ID and Secret.
(Create a credential at Google Cloud Console
if you don't have one — choose Web application, add
https://developers.google.com/oauthplaygroundas an authorised redirect URI.) -
In Step 1, find Google Ads API and select
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/adwords. Click Authorise APIs. - In Step 2, click Exchange authorisation code for tokens. Then tick Auto-refresh the token before it expires if shown.
- Copy both the Access token and the Refresh token from Step 2.
Step 5 — Connect in PixelMili
Dashboard → Settings → Integrations → Google Ads. Paste your Customer ID, Developer Token, Conversion Action ID, and Access Token. Optionally paste the Refresh Token, OAuth Client ID, and OAuth Client Secret to enable automatic token renewal. Click Save.
Step 6 — Verify it's working
- Click a Google Ad to land on your site (this sets the
gclidcookie). - Complete a purchase or trigger the conversion event.
- In Google Ads → Goals → Conversions → Summary, the conversion should appear within 3 hours (Google's processing delay).
- In PixelMili → Events, the event will show a Google Ads badge confirming the upload was accepted.
